What Is Almond Shell? & The Supply Process
Almond Shell is a woody, high-density, lignin-rich biomass by-product resulting from the separation of the almond kernel in cracking facilities. It is known in solid fuel markets particularly for its stable, high-temperature combustion profile.
Thanks to its high higher heating value (HHV), it is a highly economical, domestic and environmentally friendly (low-sulphur) alternative to fossil coal and imported fuels. It has quite wide moisture tolerance; it is more resistant to weather conditions in storage areas compared to hazelnut shell.
It is consumed in large tonnages in greenhouse heating, factory steam boilers, lime and brick kilns, mixed with wood or directly as a fuel. Akyel Kayısı ships almond shells, in their natural cracked form straight from the cracking facility, across Türkiye in bulk truckloads or large sacks (Big-Bag).
Key Technical & Commercial Advantages
- Higher heating value (HHV) equal to or above wood
- Low ash content, does not cause clinker on boiler grates
- Minimal sulphur and toxic emission rate, compliant with environmental regulations
- Long-lasting, stable embers for greenhouses, steam boilers and industrial furnaces
- Hard, dense shell structure also suited to the natural abrasive / blasting media industry
- Year-round regular supply by truckload and in bulk
Areas Of Use By Sector
Modern Greenhouse Heating
Used for uninterrupted and economical winter heating of technological greenhouses in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions.
Industrial Steam Boilers
Burned in the solid-fuel boilers of textile, food and chemical factories, either as a supplement to coal or on its own.
Briquette & Pellet Production
Thanks to its high lignin content, it is a raw material suitable for pressing into pellet or briquette fuel without a binder.

The calorific value and ash references in the table are based on biomass literature and supply experience; exact values vary with the lot, moisture and source, and are not a commitment measured by our company.
Almond Shell — Fuel Information and Supply
Hard shell fuels are sourced from contracted cracking facilities in naturally broken form and shipped on a tonnage basis; sieving, sizing, or hand selection is not applied in this group. You can review the fuel value and supply information below:
In hard shell fuels, size/calibre is secondary; what matters is calorific value, low ash, and low moisture. The common typical reference range in biomass literature is approximately 4,060–4,540 kcal/kg; it varies by lot, moisture, and source, and is not a value measured or guaranteed by our company.
Frequently Asked Questions About Almond Shell
Does almond shell burn in stoker (automatically fed) boilers?
Generally yes; the grain size of natural cracked almond shell is well suited to flowing through stoker augers without jamming.
