What Is Apricot Kernel Shell? & The Supply Process
Apricot Kernel Shell is the hard, thick, woody shell left over after the kernel is cracked out of dried apricots at cracking facilities and the kernel is removed. Since Malatya is the centre of apricot growing, kernel cracking is also concentrated there, which is why most of this shell comes out of that basin.
The shell is hard and dense; it does not burn out quickly in the fire, it gives more ember than flame and stays hot for a long time. This is why it is taken as fuel for stoves and solid-fuel boilers, bread and flatbread ovens, greenhouses and poultry-house heating. Its combustion behaviour is close to its nearest relative, peach kernel shell; depending on stock, the two can substitute for each other.
Besides fuel use, facilities producing nargile (hookah) and charcoal briquettes take the shell as a raw material to carbonise.
